Transcend Statue

Across from the courthouse in Lafayette is a limestone sculpture by artist Don Lawler. The sculpture is called “Transcend” and stands along the sidewalk on the west side of the street. The sculpture stands about six feet tall and weighs about 1500 pounds.

The sculpture shows a block with wedge being lifted off the top by a series of swirling curves that look roughly like tentacles. The artist suggests that the sculpture represents the rising to excellence of people in the community in their business, personal, and spiritual affairs.
